Broxbourne Borough Council is pleased to announce that it has been awarded £1,070,786 from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s Warm Homes: Local Grant scheme.
This funding will be used to enhance the energy efficiency of homes across the Borough, particularly helping low-income residents. The funding will support the installation of energy-saving upgrades, such as insulation, solar panels, and heat pumps, in homes across Broxbourne. This initiative aims to provide residents with warmer and more energy-efficient homes while reducing household energy bills.
With 40,720 households in Hertfordshire currently living in fuel poverty, this funding is a vital step in ensuring that more local residents can benefit from improved energy efficiency and reduced energy costs. In addition, energy efficiency measures will help reduce the carbon footprint of homes, contributing to the national effort to address climate change.
England’s homes are responsible for approximately 20% of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. Many homes remain energy inefficient, making them costly to heat in the winter and uncomfortably hot during summer heatwaves. By improving how we heat, cool, and power our homes, this project will contribute significantly to reducing emissions and combating climate change.
The eligibility criteria for the Warm Homes: Local Grant scheme are as follows:
- Households with a gross annual income of less than £36,000, those receiving specified means-tested benefits, or residents living in the 20% most deprived postcodes in England.
- Homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating between D and G.
- Privately owned homes, including both owner-occupied and privately rented properties.
Upgrades will be tailored to each home to ensure the most appropriate measures are installed. There will be no cost to residents for these upgrades. The delivery of the upgrades is expected to begin in late 2025, with the funding covering the period until March 2028. Further details on how residents can apply will be made available on the Council’s website in the near future.
In addition, another funding scheme announced this month by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3, has been offered £1,164,706 to Broxbourne’s largest social landlord, B3Living. This funding will be used to improve the energy efficiency of their properties.
