A new self-defence programme for girls aged 11-17 is commencing in the Borough of Broxbourne on Friday 4 November.
Broxbourne Council are partnering with Miltia Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to offer the free, six-week course.
The sessions will take place at Militia Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu’s venue at Unit 2 Bridge Works, Nazeing New Road, Broxbourne EN10 6SG, which is a five minute walk from Broxbourne Rail Station, and will take place from 4:30 - 5:30pm.
This specialised programme will deal with all the fundamental aspects of self-defence, from awareness and safety, to strikes and defence to control, submissions and escapes.
The classes are a practical application of defence and combat techniques. While the emphasis is on a non-aggressive response to threatening altercations, participants will learn straightforward ways to release themselves from pins and grips or how to floor or strike an assailant who is much larger. Participants will learn simple proven methods that are memorable and essential when the only option is to fight back.
There are 15 spaces on the course so pre-booking is essential. To book your place, please contact the Council’s Community Development Team on emma.elsafty@broxbourne.gov.uk.
