Broxbourne Council will join more than 2,000 venues across the UK and the Commonwealth, in the long tradition of lighting beacons to celebrate the Royal Jubilee.
Beacons will be lit across the country at 9.45pm on Thursday 2 June, including three beacons within the Borough. Events are being organised around the beacon lightings, including fun, food and music.
In Hoddesdon Town Centre, by Fawkon Walk, the beacon will be lit by Karen Trew, the Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire, accompanied by the Leader of Broxbourne Council. The event is being held in partnership with Love Hoddesdon Business Improvement District, who are organising a funfair in the town centre from 11am to 10pm, with music from 8.30pm to 10.30pm and a performance by the Jukebox Community Choir.
At Wormley Community Centre, Sir Charles Walker MP will be lighting the beacon. This event is running in partnership with the Wormley and Turnford Big Local, with a street party running from 5.30pm until 10.30pm, including food and entertainment.
The third beacon will be lit by the Mayor of Broxbourne, Councillor Paul Seeby at the Lee Valley White Water Centre in Waltham Cross, in partnership with Lee Valley Regional Park. There will also be a performance by the Tail Feathers, a swing and soul duo.
All events are free to attend. Car parking charges apply at the Lee Valley White Water Centre.
Councillor Paul Seeby, the Mayor of Broxbourne, said:
“We are excited to be taking part in the long tradition of lighting beacons for significant royal celebrations, alongside thousands of locations across the commonwealth. We hope to see many residents celebrating this milestone of Her Majesty the Queen, and I look forward to the other fun Jubilee activities organised with our partners across the Borough.”
The lighting of the beacons marks the start of Broxbourne Council’s Platinum Jubilee weekend celebrations. For full details, visit www.broxbourne.gov.uk/platinumjubilee.
