Become #OneStepGreener with fun events from Broxbourne Council

As world leaders come together in a bid to tackle climate change, people across Broxbourne will be doing their part to keep the planet green.

A programme of events will take place across the Borough at the same time as the United Nations come together in Glasgow for its annual climate conference, COP26. The Council-organised activities will be fun, informative, and most importantly help residents to become #OneStepGreener.

On 6 November, Cedars bee-keeper Andy Massey will be leading a biodiversity talk on honeybees – including some of Cedars’ own honeybees. Andy will give his experienced insight into the life of bees, including how they live, how the Queens are crowned, and how they create honey.

The talk will be at Cedars Park meeting room at 12pm midday, and then held again at 1.30pm.

The second event planned will see Lee Valley ranger Amy lead an exploration of the area’s flora and fauna on 7 November. Starting at the White Water Centre foyer, this will include a talk, a stroll along Artway Walk 2, and input from three other sustainability experts.

Just turn up at the White Water Centre foyer, with the first event running from 11.30am and then a second talk starting at 1.30pm.

On 13 November, Wormley Community Centre is set to host a clothes swapping event – known as Swishing – where the public are invited to take along unwanted clothing and to exchange them with other items that people have brought in. The community centre’s Sewing Bee group will also be on hand to offer adjustments, reshaping and embellishing which can give clothing a new lease of life.

Councillor David Holliday, Cabinet Member for the Environment, said:

“As world leaders come together in Glasgow for COP26, the Council is pleased to be doing its part for the planet. We hope the people of Broxbourne will get behind these fun, green and informative events. The Council is planning to organise more of these sustainable activities for residents in the future.”
