Following the adoption of the Old Pond Strategy, which consists of several improvement projects, the Council is consulting members of the public on the redesign of Grundy Park.
There are plans to turn the green space into a more diverse, multifunctional and accommodating local park for all visitors to enjoy.
Those that live or work in the area and other visitors to the park are encouraged to view and provide feedback on the plan and mock-ups of the proposed design to help shape the project as it progresses.
The proposed scheme aims to rejuvenate the park by creating an Edwardian-style public garden in the space to the south of the Laura Trott Leisure Centre.
Proposed key features include a grand entrance gate and public space at Turner’s Hill to provide a stronger visual connection with the Old Pond and strengthen the identity of the area; an elegant cherry tree walk connecting the park entrance with a ‘gazebo’ or Edwardian style sitting area at the centre of the garden; formal planting schemes with flower beds, lawns, and shrubs; a sunken ‘amphitheatre’ near the park entrance which will be used as a space for performances and displays, as well as additional park seating.
To achieve the proposed plans, it will be necessary to demolish the former toilet block at the park entrance on Turner’s Hill, and relocate the all-weather pitch. For further details please see the plan shown in the consultation document.
