Charging points for electric vehicles are due to be installed by 31 March.
Charging points for electric vehicles are due to be installed at various locations in the Borough of Broxbourne as part of the Council’s sustainability strategy. This will help motorists make the switch from fossil fuels to cleaner alternatives.
The new charging points will be installed in five car parks in the Borough, including the Council offices, Waltham Cross High Street and Eleanor Cross Road in Waltham Cross, Newnham Parade and Windmill Lane in Cheshunt. There will be three charging points in each location, consisting of one rapid 22kW charger and two normal 7kW chargers. The EV chargers are suitable for all types of electric vehicles, and this will create six electric vehicle parking spaces in each location, as each charger supports two spaces.
The charging points will be installed by 31 March.
This initiative is part of Broxbourne Council’s commitment to help reduce carbon emissions, as part of the Council’s sustainability strategy and is a fully funded project.
As a celebration of the new chargers launching in the Borough, the cost of the first month charging will be free courtesy of the charging point supplier. Car parking charges at the standard rate will still apply during chargeable hours.
Thereafter, drivers will be able to pay for the electricity using the app, EB Go! on their mobile devices. There is no subscription fee and no minimum spend. Depending on the vehicle in use, these chargers will provide up to 30 miles of range for each hour of charge.
Cllr David Holiday, Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “I am pleased to see the installation of electric vehicle charging points across the Borough, with these initial chargers in prime locations to provide flexibility and ease for those who wish to use them.
“Residents are starting to make the switch to electric vehicles and doing their bit to improve our environment, and I am happy to be a part of encouraging that.
“I hope that these five new chargers will encourage more drivers to make the switch, and ultimately will result in a cleaner, more sustainable future for Broxbourne.”
