Opportunities for Excellence scheme nearing its deadline for applications

Broxbourne Council’s ‘Opportunities for Excellence’ award scheme is now approaching its deadline date for applications.

The long-running ‘Opportunities for Excellent’ scheme is funded by Broxbourne Borough Council and enables residents aged 11-30 to apply to receive a free gym membership to help them improve in their chosen sport. The Council runs this scheme to assist local, talented athletes to achieve their full potential.

Any member of the community who is competing at county level and above will be eligible to apply.

Previous recipients of the award include:

  • Laura Kenny CBE, four times Olympic gold medallist, seven times World Champion, a record 14 European Championships and one Commonwealth Games title, all part of a total of 29 medals in track cycling
  • Lucy Charles-Barclay, World Ironman Champion
  • Nico Campbell, Junior Jamaican Champion Swimmer.

The deadline for the ‘Opportunity for Excellence’ applicants is 31 March 2021.
