How residents can cast their vote at the May elections

The elections will take place on Thursday 6 May 2021.

The Police and Crime Commissioner election for Hertfordshire and the local Council election for the Borough of Broxbourne electoral wards will take place on Thursday 6 May 2021, following their postponement in May 2020.

The County Council election for the electoral divisions in the Borough of Broxbourne will also take place on Thursday 6 May 2021.

Those that have not already registered to vote must do so by midnight on Monday 19 April. Visit www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.

Voters have a range of options for casting their ballot – in person, by post or by appointing someone they trust to vote in their place, known as a proxy vote. The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 20 April, and for a proxy vote the deadline is 5pm on 27 April.

Residents who have previously registered for a postal vote or to vote by proxy do not need to do anything unless they wish to change their arrangements, or have since registered at a different address.

For those who choose to vote in person, polling stations will be safe places to vote on 6 May. Voters are encouraged to keep themselves and others safe by wearing a face covering, bringing their own pen or pencil, cleaning their hands when entering and leaving the polling station and keeping a safe distance from others.

Voters must not attend a polling station if they have symptoms of COVID-19, or if they have been asked to self-isolate. There will be provisions in place to apply for an emergency proxy vote if required due to health circumstances.

For further information on the election, how to register to vote, or how to apply to vote by post or by proxy, residents can visit www.broxbourne.gov.uk/elections.
