Ask the Council for help
If you are experiencing any form of domestic violence and it is not safe for you to stay at home, you can find a local safe space or place of refuge. A safe space could be your local pharmacy, job centre, retail store and other locations.
If you would like the Council to help you find a place to live, you can fill out the 'Request help and support' form below. You will be asked to give:
- your contact details
- your date of birth
- National insurance number
- employment status
- details of benefits you receive
- immigration status
- anyone else in your household who is in your situation
You will also be asked to give the Council permission to share your details with other agencies. This is to help the Council provide the best help and advice we can. These other agencies might include:
- law enforcement
- the Home Office
- your doctor
- social services
- mental health services
- credit checking agency
- any other relevant agency
If the Council does not have to provide a place for you to live, it will still help by giving you a list of places you can contact. The Council has a limited number of places in hostels. Some of the places you may be offered will be outside the local area. Other options for you include:
- YMCA hostels - the two nearest are in Bishops Stortford and Welwyn Garden City
- renting a room in a shared house
- privately rented accommodation
