The Borough of Broxbourne encourages the use of reusable nappies over disposables. They save money for both parents and taxpayers – and are better for the environment (disposable nappies take around 500 years to decompose in landfill sites).
The benefits of using reusable nappies
The average baby goes through 4,500 disposable nappies before potty training. That is a lot of nappies going to landfill. With reusables, parents will need around 20 nappies in total which are then washed and used again.
The initial up-front costs for reusable nappies are more. However, they work out cheaper in the long run – with savings of up to £500 from birth to potty, even when laundry costs are taken into account. They are also kind to your baby’s skin, easy to wear and come in many sizes.
