Conservation areas
Conservation refers to buildings, streets and areas that are protected because of their landscape, heritage, architectural, archaeological or biodiversity value.
Trees in conservation areas are also subject to special protection. You will need to apply to the Council should you want to carry out any work to a tree in these areas.
The Council has six conservation areas.
- Hoddesdon town centre
- Broxbourne
- New River
- Wentworth Cottages
- Wormley
- Churchgate
The Council has an approved programme of characterisation appraisals for its conservation areas. The first appraisal was for the Hoddesdon conservation area. You can view it as a PDF file. It will help developers to take account of heritage issues when preparing planning applications.
You can visit the Historic England website for further information on conservation areas.
