The Council’s standard provision for the collection of non-recyclable waste is one 180-litre black wheeled bin per household, which is emptied every two weeks.
Bin lids must be closed. Bags of waste or other waste items placed alongside or on top of the bin will not be collected.
Residents finding it difficult to contain their waste in their black bin should check that recyclable material is separated and placed out for collection in the appropriate container. Please check the A to Z Recycling Guide for what can and cannot go into bins and boxes.
A 240 litre bin may be allocated to households:
- With six or more permanent occupants where all reasonable efforts have been taken to remove recyclable material from the black wheeled bin
- Producing significant quantities of non-recyclable waste for medical reasons
- Where mobility or disability issues hamper resident participation in recycling services
Please do not apply for a larger bin if you do not meet one of the criteria. Before applying, please also ensure you are making use of all the recycling services available to your household.
Information provided on applications may need to be shared with other Council teams in order to confirm the information provided. All applications will be subject to a waste review visit.
